Margaret St Leger

PROGRAM:

Music with Spirit (Saturday 4:30-6pm)

WHERE IS ‘HOME’?

Fernmount

HOW DID YOU COME TO BE LIVING IN THIS AREA?

After living in Western Australia for 20 years, I drove across and up the coast to Cairns and back and discovered this was the most beautiful area. I lived in Nambucca and Congarinni before moving to Bellingen.

WHAT DOES YOUR PROGRAM OFFER TO LISTENERS?

New release music every week and the latest environmental news/articles from the internet, including the latest scientific studies from universities, plus a bit of political commentary on State and Federal issues. I play songs with an environmental theme too. I aim to keep listeners up to date with the latest planetary issues that are sometimes not raised in the mainstream media.

WHY DID YOU GET INVOLVED IN TRIPLE B?

When I lived in Congarinni I had no electricity, so used to listen to Radio Nambucca (2NVR) on a battery radio. One day I was listening to an indigenous presenter, she said “I never thought I would have my own radio show… but then I thought “Why not?” That woman really inspired me. I saw 2 Triple B FM was running a training course in 2000 and started my program Music With Spirit soon after, travelling over every Saturday just to do my show. I was terrified to begin with (at the end of the training course I was the last to go on air, having hidden in the CD library) but soon became addicted to radio and our great little radio station where I also worked as CD librarian and Music Director.

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU’RE NOT ON AIR AT TRIPLE B?

I love being out in nature, going to the beach, meditating, listening and dancing to music, eating out, watching movies. I enjoy astrology, tarot and use a pendulum.

IF YOU WERE TO STAGE YOUR OWN FESTIVAL IN BELLO, AND COULD HAVE ANY THREE HEADLINE ACTS WHO WOULD THEY BE?

Missy Higgins, Shane Howard and Midnight Oil.
